Online stores – this could be one of the most viable options since it saves a lot of time and effort. You have the option of looking up the products that you want to buy. However you must be careful since all of them are not very reliable. You must look for a toll free number where you get to talk to the customer service representatives and get assurance about service provided.
You may also have good luck in any kind of wrecking yard and used steel yards. Even truck and car wrecking yard (which have been in one place for decades) may have odd stuff around.
If you don’t think bikes break, just look on eBay – why in the world are all those parts there? Motorcycles are slippery little devils too… it’s so easy to watch one “fly” down the freeway and out of your hands and into the guard the rail. A little bloody to talk about but it’s the truth. One little lay-down and you’re are looking at a bunch of connected parts, period – true?
Another option is to buy one of the pre-manufactured kits. Keep in mind if you go this route you may end up spending up to several thousand dollars. This can be a fine approach if saving money isn’t a huge issue.
Be careful when buying auto parts from chain auto parts stores. The problem here is that quite often they will overcharge which means that you really must be making your decisions for your car parts as an informed decision. Meaning you need to do your research before you buy.
1) Consolidate everything. This very first and most important step requires dealing with all of your stuff. I am talking about clothes, dishes, pots, pans, shoes, family photos, socks – your entire belongings. You need to have hefty decisions here, since the majority of this stuff is going to have to go. You need to get your belongings to a small enough amount that they will all fit into one huge suitcase, carry on bags and 1 or 2 boxes which you may ship abroad (unless you plan to be location independent, in that situation all of your stuff should pretty much fit into one large rucksack.).
Advertise your car. If you’re not satisfied with the offers from the used autp parts, you may be able to make more money by selling it directly. You can advertise on Craigslist or some other website, giving details about your car. Include photos and be honest about the car’s condition. Put down an asking prices such as $500 or OBO for “or best offer” and wait for people to contact you. One man’s junk is another man’s treasure — you could be holding a classic that would be worth a mint once it has been restored.
If what you are hunting has small parts like screws and washers, take a Ziploc baggy with you too. This will make sure you don’t lose them somewhere in the junkyard!
